It is hard to believe we are almost at the end of January. The summer school holiday season is coming to a close, and naturally, projects around the park will start to kick into gear.
We popped into Dreamworld yesterday for an enjoyable day out.
The park was noticeably busy, considering QLD was supposed to return to school this week. It was great to see families out and about, enjoying themselves.
All rides in the park were operational, and as a result of efficient operations, queue wait times were low. Giant Drop was running both the eastern and western facing sides. Steel Taipan was running 2 trains, dispatching a train every 2 minutes.
The Staff
We wanted to start this mini update by giving a shout out to the staff at the park. In our experience, Dreamworld staff have always been incredibly welcoming and willing to go that extra mile for their guests. Today was no exception.
On one particular encounter we witnessed a ride operator on Sky Voyager who when checking the rides restraints came across a young boy who didn’t wish to go on the ride. The ride operator hopped on the floor and put herself at the child’s level. She spoke to him about why he didn’t want to go on it anymore, and then reassured him that he was safe, and how much of a fun ride it was.
After being reassured, the child went on the ride, and came off beaming, and telling his siblings about how much he loved it. She clearly made his day. The ride operator did not have to go to that extra mile to reassure the guest, but she did, and it was great to see. This is just one of many examples of how much the staff can make or break an experience for a guest, however we constantly see the team at Dreamworld going that extra mile, which is great to see.
Dreamworld Railway
Work has recommended on the Dreamworld Railway after a summer pause, with construction work happening down next to the Giant Drop.
On the other side of Central Park Station, The track next to the Tower of Terror and Escape from Madagascar has been cleared up after being covered up for the demolition of Tower of Terror. A set of track points is also being installed opposite the Escape from Madagascar Coaster.
We also had a good look around the Baldwin steam train. It was great to see it all in one piece again, it looked absolutely fantastic. The sign denoted that the restoration of the Baldwin is ongoing, and there is more to come. We wonder what is in store?
We are looking forward to seeing the train return to the park. Transport rides (trains, monorails, chairlifts) can help make an enjoyable day even better. Even though they arent high thrill rides, they are a nice way of seeing the park, whilst taking a load off your feet, and having the pleasure of “riding” something at the same time.
New Fire Station Feature
Not yet operational on our visit, but there looks to be a new feature coming to the Dreamworld Fire Station. A big red button has been installed on the left side of the building, and it appears to be connected up to a pair of red flashing lights, and a speaker. It was not yet functional.
That is all for todays mini update. We will continue to track progress of projects around the park to document history and change at the park.
