On your mark… get ready… set… go!
5th December 2021, Dreamworld hosted their first ever “fun run” to support Livin, a charity organisation founded to support Mental Health.
Taking inspiration from the “Run Disney” events at Disney Parks around the globe, two fun runs were held, a 7am 5km fun run through both WhiteWater World and Dreamworld, and a 2km Junior Dash that started at 8am, which weaved through Dreamworlds kid themed precincts.
If you were unable to take part in the event, our guest writer Ashley, who runs the Instagram page “themeparkqueen_au” took her and her family part in the 8am Junior Dash fun run. Ashley has written a detailed run down of the event.
We arrived at the park at 7:30am for an 8am start. Upon arriving, the entry process was seamless, and registration only took minutes. The Green Bean café was open so you could grab yourself a coffee while you waited for the event to start and watch all the runners from the 5km run finish their race.
I found the atmosphere in the park to be very good, everything felt very well organised and there were plenty of staff on hand if you had any queries.
The Junior Dash was due to start at 8am but started around 8:10am, as we were waiting for a few runners to finish the 5km run. The fun run started on Main Street, just out the front of the Dreamworld Globe. From there we proceeded past ‘Sky Voyager’ and down to ABC Kids World. There were ample volunteers and Dreamworld employees spread throughout the course, cheering on all the children, and offering water at certain points.
Once we reached ‘The Big Red Boat’ we were greeted by Dorothy the Dinosaur waving and cheering. At this point the course looped around and we headed back up out of ABC Kids World and made our way into the DreamWorks precinct where ‘King Julien’ from Madagascar was waiting and waving. We proceeded down to the ‘Pandamonium’ where Dreamworld Lifeguards were waiting with water guns, which at this point I welcomed with open arms (my daughter not so much). The course then continued past ‘Skadoosh’ and towards the ‘Gold Coaster’, then looped around and headed towards Main Street, where we started our second lap back down to ABC Kids World.
‘Dorothy the Dinosaur’ was now on a break and replaced by ‘Wags the Dog’ and ‘Captain Feathersword’.
As we weaved out of ABC Kids World and back up to the DreamWorks Precinct we were greeted by ‘Alex’ the lion.
Following the same route as the first lap we got to the Gold Coaster and my daughter began to lose motivation. A Dreamworld employee pretended to be an aeroplane with her which gave her the final push she needed to make it back to Main Street and cross the finish line near the Dreamworld Globe. Kenny and Belinda were cheering from the side lines and as my daughter crossed the finish line, she was awarded with a finisher medal and a box of Lego.
Once everyone had finished the race all the kids took a group photo with Kenny and Belinda on the steps in front of the Dreamworld Globe and a prize was given to the child who had raised the most money. Once everything was done it was roughly 9:00am and everyone was instructed to start making their way out of the park.
I loved this event! Everything was very well organised, and the atmosphere was upbeat and positive. Staff and volunteers were amazing. I sometimes find big events with kids to be a little overwhelming, however I did not feel this today. The processes for everything were very clear, there was no confusion as to where you had to be. There was an announcer that was giving you regular updates as to when the race was expected to start so you were always in the loop.
I would absolutely participate in this Fun Run again. Well done Dreamworld.
